Things That Live Within

For almost a millennium, young girls around the age of fourteen to twenty have randomly disappeared from all parts of the world. There are no signs of their return. Nobody can explain where they are, or whether they are alive.

They are known as the disappearees. Many families are lucky enough to have their daughters, sisters, nieces, cousins pass the age of twenty and free of the disappearing possibility, yet a significant number of families are not so lucky and they must deal with the loss.

Me? Well, I am among those unlucky ones. My cousins Rith, Sherleen, Harper, and Sienn are the most important people in my life, yet now they are among the disappearees. Will I be willing to be with my cousins if I have the chance, wherever it may be, whatever it takes? Yes, I will, in a heartbeat.
